Struggling to find joy in the middle of your challenges this week? You’re not alone. Sometimes joy feels far away.
It’s been a season where I’ve felt stuck—like I was imprisoned by pain from nerve damage after multiple back surgeries. The fight for joy became fierce.
But what if those very battles could become your most powerful testimony?
Let me ask you something: What’s that one thing you secretly hoard?
Maybe it’s your time, your comfort zone, or even your story. Does the thought of sharing it with others make you uneasy? When joy feels far away, this is easy to do. But it’s not always helpful.
We all have something. But now, consider something even more significant—the story of Jesus.
How do you share something so profound, especially when life throws its hardest hits?
Paul’s Perspective: Joy in Chains
Imprisoned and facing immense hardship, Paul gives us a surprising answer in Philippians 1:12–17.
His perspective?
- His chains? They advanced the Gospel.
- His hardship? It emboldened others.
God uses our difficult circumstances to spread His Word.
Could He be doing something deeper in your own life?
That tough job.
The strained relationship.
The chronic pain.
Could it all be part of a bigger story?
What We Learn from Paul’s Chains
When joy feels far away, remember these four truths:
1. Focus Your Sharing
Does what you share point to your pain—or to God’s glory through it?
2. Your Reach Matters
Your story impacts more people than you realize. Is it spreading hope in Christ, or just highlighting hardship?
3. Know Your “Why”
Are your trials the result of faithfulness—or something else? This shapes the way we tell our stories.
4. Share to Build Up
Does your story inspire others to boldly share Christ—even in the middle of their own pain?
Even in opposition, Paul reminds us that the message of Christ still went forth (Philippians 1:15–18).
When others share their faith in the middle of hardship, it brings joy—not just to them, but to us too.
It reminds us:
- We’re not alone.
- God is still at work.
- Good can come from it.
Paul’s question hits home:
“What does it matter?” — Philippians 1:18
What matters is this: that Christ is proclaimed.
Talking about Jesus brings joy.
It brings the Spirit’s help.
It brings freedom—even if that freedom is a changed heart in the middle of an unchanged circumstance.
Paul’s mindset in verse 21 wraps it up beautifully:
“For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain.”
Either way, we win.
Your Call to Joyful Sharing
You don’t have to wait for healing to begin sharing hope. Sometimes, it’s in the middle of the pain that our stories shine the brightest.
Here’s how to start:
✨ Pray – Ask God to open hearts and give you opportunities to share how He’s been faithful in your life.
✨ Reach Out – Tell your story. Send a message. Offer to pray with someone. Don’t wait for things to be perfect—share with joy, right where you are. When joy feels far away, you can also read a little bit about my story here.
